About Central Coalfields Limited (CCL): Central Coalfields Limited was incorporated on 1st Nov 1975 and its headquarters is located in Ranchi, Jharkhand. CCL formerly known as National Coal Development Corporation Limited was one of the five subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL), which was the first holding company for coal in the country. CCL is undertaken by the Government of India and manages the nationalized coal mines of the Coal Mines Authority, Central division. It presently has 65 operative mines in areas of East Bokaro, West Bokaro, North Karanpura, South Karanpura, Ramgarh Giridih and Huar. Central Coalfields Limited is a Category-I Mini-Ratna Company since October 2007.

The main strength of CCL, so far as coal production is concerned, is its large opencast mines with mechanised coal production, mostly through shovel-dumper combination and surface Miner. CCL facilities include 6 washeries (5 Coking Coal and 1 Non-Coking Coal), 5 Regional Workshops (Jarandih, Tapin North, Dakra, Giridih and Bhurkunda), 1 Central Workshop (Barkakana). Coal production of the company reached its highest-ever figure of 47.08 million tones, with net worth amounting to Rs.2,644 crore against a paid-capital of Rs.940 crore during 2009-2010. Ahok Project, Piparwar Project, Magadh Project and Amrapali Project are among the largest projects of India.

The Objectives of CCL is to optimize the generation of internal resources by improving the productivity of resources, prevent wastage and to mobilize adequate external resources to meet investment need, maintain high standards of Safety and strive for accident-free mining of Coal, modernize existing Mines, improve customer satisfaction, undertake detailed exploration and plan for new projects to meet the future coal demand and to develop technical know-how and organizational capability of Coal mining as we as Coal beneficiation and undertake, wherever necessary, applied research and development work related to Scientific exploration for greater extraction of Coal.

CCL has a definite plan of growth and it has envisaged commissioning of a number of greenfield and expansion projects, both opencast and underground, during XI Plan with state-of-the-Art technologies.
