About Delhi Development Authority: Delhi Development Authority was established in 1957, to accommodate a growing population, provide adequate infrastructure and oversee planned development in Delhi, as it was created under the provisions of the Delhi Development Act. DDA is located in New Delhi and it is responsible for planning, development and construction of Housing Projects, Commercial Lands, Land Management as well as providing public facilities like roads, bridges, drains, Underground water reservoir, community centres, sports centres, green belts etc., within the area of National Capital Territory of New Delhi, India.
In 1962 DDA formulated the 1st Master Plan to ensure an organized and structured development of haphazard growth of Delhi. This included identification of new land that can be developed into residential properties and make self-contained colonies by providing ample commercial office and retail complexes as well. The DDA Master plan was revised in 1982 to formulate the Master Plan 2001 and then re-revised in 2007 to form the Delhi Master Plan 2021. It lays down the infrastructure requirements for a city estimated to have a population of 128 lakhs. DDA has acquired 69907.50 acres of land and developed it for residential, recreational, industrial, commercial and institutional purposes.
DDA planned and created the infrastructure for the IX Asian Games including a shooting range, a stadium of international standards and the integrated Asian Games Village containing 853 dwelling units. DDA has developed as many as 22 industrial estates having 12000 units. The Authority has also allotted thousands of Institutional plots. District centres, community centres, local shopping centres and other commercial areas planned and created by the DDA are a beehive of economic activity, creating wealth and generating employment all over the city. DDA has instituted Urban Heritage Award for maintenance and upkeep of old buildings that are more than 50 years olf, still in use and not listed as monuments.
DDA aims to provide an entire network of sports facilities through sports complexes, playfields, multi-facility gymnasiums and fitness centres, golf courses etc. DDA provides the basic infrastructure facilities, coaching through the top sportspersons in India, providing stipends and kits and other facilities to identify and train budding sports talent in Delhi. Besides, this DDA also conducts various talent hunt schemes through its sports complexes in Dwarka, Saket, Hari Nagar and other areas, including Yamuna sports complex and Siri Fort Sports Complex plan to host State level tournaments to provide a platform to professional and amateur sportspeople to showcase their talent. There are two more sports complexes in East Delhi on is Chill Sports Complex at Vasundhara Enclave and the second is Poorvi Delhi Khel Parisar.
