About District Health and Family Welfare Samiti (DHFWS): District Health and Family Welfare Samiti was incorporated in the year 1976 and is located in New Delhi, India. The Department of Health and Family Welfare of Government of NCT of Delhi is headed by the Principal Secretary and has abundant health care responsibilities. The Department of Family Welfare was separately administratively from the Director of Health Services. The Department plays a significant role and is committed to providing health care facilities to the people of Delhi. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is the largest department under the DHFWS.
The Department of Health deals with health care, preventive medicine, immunisation campaigns and public health. Some of the bodies under the administrative control of this department are NACO, NVBDCP, Universal Immunisation Programme, Medical Council of India, Indian Nursing Council, HSCC, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, National Centre for Disease Control etc. The DGHS is the major agency related to health care delivery and provides facilities at the primary and secondary level to the citizens of Delhi and it is instrumental in coordination and implementation of various national and state health programmes.
The Department of Family Welfare cooperated with NGO's and international aid groups, rural health services and responsible for family welfare, health, education and communications.
