About Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited was incorporated on 3rd May 1995 and its headquarters is situated in New Delhi. DMRC is established under the Companies Act, 1956 with equal equity participation of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNTCD) and the Central Government to implement the dream of construction and operation of a world-class Mass RTapid Transport System (MRTS)DMRC is a Central-State Public Sector Company that operated Delhi Metro and is also involved in the planning and implementation of metro rail, monorail, and high-speed rail projects in India and abroad.
The DMRC has a business development department which is in charge of the consultancy services and has served as the project consultant and has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for every metro and monorail project in India, except the Kolkata Metro and Chennai MRTS, which were constructed before the formation of the DMRC. DMRC is divided into various parts namely Projects, Operation and Maintenance, Finance, Human Resource, etc. which are controlled by the respective Directors under the direction of Managing Directors. The DMRC is involved with the implementation and/or construction of Kochi Metro, Jaipur Metro and Lucknow Metro. Presently, the Delhi Metro network consists of about 389 km with 285 stations. The network has now crossed the boundaries of Delhi to reach NOIDA and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh and Ballabhgarh in Haryana. The network also includes the NOIDA - Greater NOIDA Aqua Line. The Rapid Metro provides connectivity within the satellite city of Gurugram.
The Delhi Metro has also contributed tremendously to the environment front by becoming the first-ever railway project in the world to claim carbon credits for regenerative braking. DMRC has also been certified by the United Nations (UN) as the first Metro Rail and Rail based system in the world to get carbon credits for reducing Green House gas emissions as it has helped to reduce pollution levels in the city 6.3 lakh tons every year thus helping in reducing global warming. It has also set up roof solar power plants at many of its stations. DMRC received outstanding PSU of the year (2016) award conferred by All India Management Association (AIIMA) and was awarded for its 'Outstanding Contribution' for promoting world-class services in Urban Transporation and adopting best practices of Project Management.
