About Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC): Employees' State Insurance Corporation was incorporated on 24th Feb 1952 and its headquarters is located in New Delhi, India. Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), established by the ESI Act, is an autonomous corporation under the Ministry of Labour and Employees', Government of India. ESIC is a Statutory Body and Administrative Ministry is Ministry of Labour and Employees', Government of India. ESIC is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers, the fund is managed by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) according to its rules and regulations stipulated in the ESI Act 1948.
The Act was initially intended for factory workers but later became applicable to all establishments and now there are millions of beneficiaries. Employees' State Insurance Corporation runs medical, dental, nursing and paramedical schools in many locations across India. Presently, there are 9 medical colleges and 2 dental colleges established by the ESI Scheme. These colleges admit students on the basis of marks obtained in the competitive examinations conducted at the central level, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). Their colleges are managed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (India) under the ESI Corporation which is located at Kolkata, Faridabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Gulbarga.
Employees' State Insurance Corporation provides socio-economic protection to worker population and also provides full medical care for self and dependents. They are also entitled to cash benefits in the event of specified contingencies resulting in loss of wages or earning capacity.
