About MAHAGENCO: Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited is an Electricity Generation Industry owned by the government and located at Bandra in Mumbai. MAHAGENCO is formerly known as MSEB (Maharashtra State Electricity Board) and it has been incorporated under the Indian Companies Act 1956 pursuant to a decision of Govt. of Maharashtra to reorganize Erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board. The MAHAGENCO has been incorporated on 31.05.2005 with the Registrar of Companies, Maharashtra, Mumbai and has obtained Certificate of Commencement of Business on 15.09.2005.
MAHAGENCO has the highest overall generation capacity and the highest thermal installed capacity amongst all the date power generation utilities in India. In terms of Installed capacity, it is the 2nd highest generation company after NTPC and committed to expanding the generation capacity to meet the ever-growing power supply need of Maharashtra. The duties of generating company are to establish, operate and maintain generating stations, tie-lines, substations and dedicated transmission lines connected in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act 2003 under section 2 (28). A generating company may supply electricity to any license to any consumer. Every generating company shall submit the technical details about generating stations to the Appropriate Commission and the Authority and Co-ordinate with the Central Transmission Utility or the State Transmission Utility, as the case may be, for transmission of the electricity generated by it.
