About National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS): National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) was established in the year 1847 and it is located in Bangalore, Karnataka. NIMHANS is an Institute of National Importance governed bu the act of Parliament titled NIMHANS Act, 2012 and the Institute operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Central Government recognized its eminent academic position, growth and contributions, and declared it a 'Deemed University' in 1994.

The Institute is the apex centre for mental health and neuroscience education in the country. In 2012, NIMHANS has conferred the status of an the 'Institute of National Importance'. Several national and international funding organisations provide resources for academic and research activities.
