About Ordnance Factory Board (OFB): Ordnance Factory Board was established in the year 1712 and its headquarters is located in Kolkata. Indian Ordnance Factories is a giant industrial setup which functions under the Department of Defence Production of the Ministry of Defence. OFB is engaged in research, development, production, testing, marketing and logistics of a comprehensive product range in the areas of air, land and sea systems. Indian Ordnance Factories is a conglomerate of 41 Factories, 9 Training Institutes, 3 Regional Marketing Centres and 4 Regional Controller of Safety.
The growth of the Ordnance Factories leading to its present setup has been continuos but in spurts. There were 18 ordnance factories before India became independent and 21 factories have been established after independence.
