About Odisha Staff Selection Commission: Odisha Staff Selection Commission was formed on 4th Nov 1975 and the Commission's office is located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Commission is statutory in the sense that it derives its mandate and authority from the proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution of India, and is set up under the powers conferred under the Article. It is an organisation under the Government of India to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices. Every year SSC conducts the SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination for recruiting non-gazetted officers to various government jobs.
In the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, on 4th November 1975, the Government of India constituted a commission called Subordinate Service Commission. On 26h Sep 1977, Subordinate Services Commission was renamed as Staff Selection Commission. The functions of the Staff Selection Commission were redefined by the Government of India through the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and on 21st May 1999. Then the new constitution and functions of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) came into effect from 1st June 1999. The Commission comprises a Chairman and Member both appointed by the Government.
At present, it has seven Regional offices at Prayagraj, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore and New Delhi. It also has two Sub-Regional Offices at Raipur and Chandigarh. This Commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which consists of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations and the post is equivalent to the level of Additional Secretary to the Government of India. Staff Selection Commission currently functioning as a subordinate office of DoPT and is mainly engaged in conducting competitive exams for recruitment to various posts in the SSC departments, organizations.
