About PGVCL: Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited was incorporated on 15th Sep 2003 and located in Vadodara, Gujarat. PGVCL is the largest Power Distribution utility in Gujarat and is wholly own subsidiary of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). PGVCL Commercial Operation of Company is started on 1st April 2005. The erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board was unbundled pursuant to Power Sector Reforms initiated by State Government into Seven Companies including PGVCL. The company is involved in electricity sub-transmission distribution and retail supply in the State of Gujarat State. The company is feeding electricity in 12 districts of Gujarat namely, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Bhuj, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Amreli, Botad, Morbi, Devbhumi Dwarka and Gir Somnath.

PGVCL mandate is to establish and use a power system network and to buy and sell electrical energy, and to collect information with an eye towards further system improvements. The company obtained the Certificate of the Commencement of Business on 15th October 2003. The company was one of the several created as a part of efforts towards restructuring of the power sector in the state of Gujarat in India. The Gujarat Electricity Industry paved the way for comprehensive reform and restructuring of the State Electricity Board with an aim to restructure the Electricity Industry in a manner that will ensure the long term viability and sustainability of the power sector in the state.

As a part of the reform process, the GEB was disaggregated into several autonomous entities. PGVCL is undertaken by the government of Gujarat. The Electricity Act 2003 introduced competition by way open access in the transmission and distribution of electricity. The Act also provided for the reorganization of the Electricity Boards through appropriate transfer schemes being formulated by the state governments. The Government of Gujarat reorganized the GEB functionally into a Generation Company, a Transmission Company and four Distribution Companies. Thereby Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited became functional on 1st April 2005.

The objective of PGVCL is to create sensitivity within the company and society toward social development and to consider CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility) as one of the company's responsibilities and to encourage cooperation with the wider stakeholder community. PGVCL will seek to identify suitable programmes for implementation in line with the CSR objectives of the company and also the benefit of the stakeholders and the community for which those programs are intended. This company policy, which encompasses the Company's philosophy for delineating its responsibility as a corporate citizen and lays down the guidelines and mechanism for undertaking socially relevant programs for welfare and sustainable development of the community at large, is titled as the 'Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) Policy of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL).
